Ceramic Artist
Jeff’s
extensive technical understanding of firing and glazing, paired with bold
design and colorful palettes make him a cutting edge ceramist who has already
developed a large following at this early point in his career. Jeff draws
inspiration from all over.
His earliest influences include the far-reaching design of Charles and Ray Eames and other fine furnishings from leaders like Herman Miller and Steelcase. He continues to find direction from his 5-acre organic farm in the countryside of Saugatuck MI.
Jeff is a 24-year-old designer and ceramicist with a summer studio in
“Having
taught myself to wheel-throw had many advantages… I didn’t know what type of
ceramic art was most common, or how the artists made their work. I believe it
allowed me to develop a style of my own.”
He combines
contemporary shapes along with modern color schemes to achieve the balance
necessary with each piece. Ultimately trying to capture the fashion of
ceramics, Jeff looks for inspiration in everything from modern furniture to the
architecture of the greats such as Frank Gehry. His love for interior design
can be seen with most of his unique ceramic vessels.
Volmod was born in the summer of 2003. The voluptuous
and modern ceramics are one of a kind thrown pieces ranging from
functional to sculptural.
Jeff has
had the pleasure of doing commissions for clients such as the president of
Herman Miller, designing work for his office, Herman Miller designers, and
Bukiety- Chicago’s top florist.
The
ceramics can be found in five states and over fifteen cities throughout
